Each year GEMsoc supports 3 charities - a local, a national, and an international charity. At the moment, these charities are the local air ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). We shall shortly be holding elections to determine the charities that GEMsoc shall support for the next year. If you would like to nominate a charity in any of the three categories of local, national or international charity then please reply to this e-mail stating the name of the registered charity together with a short description of the work that the charity performs/supports. PLEASE SEND IN ALL NOMINATIONS BY 1700 TUESDAY 20TH JANUARY 2009 Many thanks |

I hope you had a fabulous festive break, back now with some great weather to keep up our spirits! I just wanted to let everyone who is interested know (apologies to those who are not) that there will be both Choir and Orchestra rehearsals again throughout this term. I know there has normally not been any action post Christmas but this year there will be an Easter concert of sorts, details will be released soon. So there is still a need for your musical talents! Choir are rehearsing the usual time Thursday 5.30pm - 6.30pm in the seminar room Orchestra rehearse Monday 5pm - 6.30pm in the seminar room. If you haven't been before then why not come along? We have some fun new music and always room for new voices/instruments. If you are interested - just give it a bash! Thanks for reading, perhaps see you at rehearsals. Cheers, Jess and Alastair |

I've set up a 3 peaks challenge group on facebook to put out some feelers and see what the level of interest is. So far quite a few people have joined. If you're not in the know, it involves scaling the 3 mighty British peaks; Ben Nevis (1344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1085m) in 24 hours. To make it a bit more interesting, if it goes ahead it'll probably take place the weekend before we start back after Christmas hols - 10/11 Jan. It'll be snowy on Big Ben Nevis and we'll be doing a fair bit of walking in the dark so some decent gear and a head torch will be essential. If you're interested get yourself joined up! If anyone has/knows someone who has a minibus liscence and is prepared to come on an all expenses paid road trip can you please let me know. The planning of this event hinges on you!! This is an endurance race, so fitties only need apply. Estimating a cost of £60 per head to cover minibus, driver, 1 nights accomodation and some food. If your into it £10 sponsorship for charity should be fairly easy to come by and we can pass it on to the charities comittee. Tim H (Sports sec trainee) x |
